Biodiversity, ecosystem and rice cultivation

Wetlands are ecosystems, essential for the ecological balance of an area. Their main feature is the permanently or periodically flooded soil that provides an ideal shelter for amphibious micro-organisms and water birds.

Rice fields play an important role in maintaining the ecological balance of an area as they function as artificial seasonal wetlands.

The breeding season of birds coincides with the time when rice fields are flooded with water for sowing rice, and as a result flamingos, herons, little egrets, black-headed birds, and other waterfowl find food for their young there. The continuation of rice cultivation is therefore essential for the preservation of the biodiversity of the areas, so that plants, amphibians, and birds can live in complete harmony.
